HOYLE RESPONSES TO SUPREME COURT OVERRULING THE CHEVRON DOCTRINE

Court sides with big corporations over safeguards for American public

WASHINGTON, DC— Today, the U.S. Supreme Court released its ruling on Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo, gutting the landmark 1984 Chevron v. NRDC case that established the Chevron Doctrine. The 1984 Chevron decision determined that courts would defer to federal subject matter experts when there is a need for reasonable interpretation of laws. Representative Val Hoyle (OR-04) released the following statement in response:

“This decision will create chaos, putting corporate interests and profit over the wellbeing of everyday Americans. The court has weakened federal protections across-the-board—from consumer safeguards to worker safety to environmental standards and more—by removing experts’ ability to interpret how laws should be applied.

“This dangerous ruling will have severe consequences for families, workers and the environment for generations to come.”
