Hoyle Statement on the Detain and Deport Illegal Aliens Who Assault Cops Act
Hoyle calls out House Republicans for continuing to pass messaging bills over real solutions
WASHINGTON, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Val Hoyle (OR-04) released the following statement after voting against H.R. 7343, the so-called “Detain and Deport Illegal Aliens Who Assault Cops Act”:
“This is another performative House Republican messaging bill that fails to address our nation’s real challenges. This broadly drafted bill is unconstitutional, undermines due process rights and has no chance at becoming law.
“Let me be clear: I stand with the constitution and with due process rights. I also strongly support providing more resources to our law enforcement officers. I am proud to co-sponsor legislation like the DIGNIDAD (Dignity) Act which would actually help law enforcement by hiring additional border patrol agents and funding new border infrastructure and equipment.
"It’s time to stop playing politics with people’s lives and get to work on real solutions that keep our communities and law enforcement agents safe. The safety and security of our country is too important to continue delaying action.”
