Rep. Hoyle, Bentz Efforts to Protect USPS Service Standards Continue Despite Amendment Setback

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Rep. Val Hoyle (OR-04) and Rep. Cliff Bentz (OR-02) shared the following statement on their continued efforts to protect USPS service standards, despite amendment setback:

“As part of our commitment to maintaining a high-quality postal service, Rep. Bentz and I put forward an amendment to the Financial Services and General Government Act, 2024 Appropriations funding Bill aimed at preventing the downgrading of USPS facilities. Despite our efforts, the amendment was not adopted.

“The proposed amendment was a direct response to bipartisan concerns that such downgrades from Processing & Distribution Centers to Local Processing Centers would impair service, particularly for rural communities. It would lead to longer delivery times for packages, contradicting the USPS's mission of efficiency.

"Despite this setback, we remain dedicated to ensuring that the USPS does not compromise on service. The USPS must not divert from its foundational role of serving every American, regardless of where they live. We stand with our postal workers and will continue to advocate for the necessary support they need to provide the vital services our communities rely on.”
