Representative Hoyle Statement on the White House's Outrageous Treatment of President Zelenskyy
For Immediate Release: February 28, 2025
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representative Val Hoyle (OR-04) released the following statement after President Trump and Vice President Vance’s outrageous treatment of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House:
“President Trump’s press conference in the Oval Office today was an obvious set up. It was always their plan to publicly berate President Zelenskyy as political theater — that’s why they invited TASS (Russian media) but not AP or Reuters.
Today’s performance in the White House was egregious and dangerous. It did not reflect the will of the majority of the American people, our national security interests nor our commitment to our NATO allies to defend the freedoms for which so many people died to protect.”
BACKGROUND
Representative Hoyle has a long history of supporting the Ukrainian people’s right to self-determination and to fight back against Russia’s illegal invasion of their country, including:
-
As a member of the Congressional Ukraine Caucus;
-
Through supporting U.S. military aid to Ukraine; and
-
By voting against previous attempts by House Republicans to cut aid to Ukraine.
