Congresswoman Hoyle Expresses Condolences on the Passing of Chief Donald “Doc” Slyter

Washington, DC – Today, U.S. Representative Val Hoyle (OR-04) shared the following statement Expressing Condolences on the Passing of Chief Donald “Doc” Slyter:

“I am deeply saddened by the passing of Chief Donald "Doc" Slyter, a cherished member of the Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siuslaw. Chief Slyter was a paragon of unwavering commitment to his people and to the land he so dearly cherished. For 39 years following the Tribe's recognition, he witnessed and nurtured their resurgence and the future for generations yet to come. His spirit and his memory leave a legacy of resilience and hope. In honor of Chief Slyter, let us continue to nurture the bonds of community and kinship he so cherished. Our thoughts are with his family, all members of the CTCLUSI Tribe, and all of us throughout the state of Oregon and beyond that will mourn his passing.”
