HOYLE CALLS OUT HOUSE REPUBLICANS FOR PUTTING POLITICS OVER SERVICEMEMBERS, VETERANS AND THEIR FAMILIES
WASHINGTON, DC— Today, U.S. Representative Val Hoyle (OR-04) released the following statement after voting against H.R. 8580, the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act for 2025:
“House Republicanshad a chance to put forward a solid, bipartisan measure to helpveteransbut have instead chosen to play politics. This MilCon-VA funding bill is extreme and will hurt servicemembers and veterans, making it even harder for them to find jobs, secure housing, support their families and make their own reproductive health care decisions. For example, it would cut the budget by $718 million in military construction and restrict access to medical services.
“Congress should devote as much funding and resources as possible to the help veterans and servicemembers. These Americansface higher rates of posttraumatic stress disorder, homelessness, greater challenges in the job market and substandard medical care. This legislation is not just irresponsible but cruel and disrespectful.
“As someone who has dedicated my career in public service to advancing the lives of veterans and working families, I could not support this legislation.”
