Rep. Hoyle Condemns President’s Push to Eliminate Mail-in Voting, Reaffirming Commitment to Secure and Accessible Elections
For Immediate Release: August 18, 2025
EUGENE, OR – In response to President Trump’s recent promise to eliminate mail-in voting, U.S. Representative Val Hoyle (OR-04) issued the following statement:
“Oregon was the first state to enact full vote by mail, an effort led by both Democratic and Republican Secretaries of State. In Oregon, we’ve proven for nearly 30 years that vote-by-mail is safe, secure, cost-effective, and trusted by Republicans, Democrats and Independents alike. There is a paper copy of every ballot, every signature is verified and the system works. That’s why Oregon consistently has some of the highest voter participation in the country.
“President Trump’s pledge to end mail-in voting is voter suppression. From pushing for mid-decade partisan redistricting, working to purge swing state voter rolls and now this, Republicans are actively working to make it harder for Americans to vote in 2026 because they don’t want to run on their record. The Constitution is clear: the responsibility of overseeing federal elections, including the Times, Places, and Manner of holding them belongs to the state and Congress. His actions are federal overreach designed to undermine free and fair elections in 2026.
“I believe every American deserves the same freedom and security Oregonians already enjoy at the ballot box: the ability to vote without standing in line for hours or having to take time off work. It’s why I introduced the Vote at Home Act earlier this year with Senator Wyden, and why I will continue fighting to protect and expand voter participation in our democracy.”
